пренебречь, вальсируем
Меня до сих пор не хватает на то, чтобы разобрать склады на diigo, поэтому выкладываю только всякую любопытную мелочь, про которую я так и не собралась написать посты.
Doctor Who and the Bechdel Test Doctor Who, happily, has a long tradition of passing the Bechdel Test... I also don't have time to go back and watch all of New Who at the moment, but since I have at least seen all of New Who, I'm going to start there. I'm going to go a bit further than the Bechdel test usually does, and have three levels of "passing".
I love you Phillip Morris: a conman's story Steven Russell – currently serving a 144-year sentence – is an inveterate conman who has made a series of daring jail breaks to rejoin his lover. As his story is brought to the screen, starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, he talks from his prison cell to Elizabeth Day.
What's Wrong With this Picture? Having queer characters on a show is not only so you, or I, can get our relationship kink rocks off. Queers, in the widest possible sense, have suffered for centuries by being invisible (then been murdered if they unfortunately become visible).
Liberty and Justice for All John Roberts, CNN Anchor: A 10-year-old boy from Arkansas is taking a stand by sitting down. Will Philips is refusing to pledge allegiance to the flag in his fifth grade classroom until there really is, as the pledge says, liberty and justice for all. That is, he says, until gays and lesbians have equal rights.
Not So Given Okay, so I've been doing the social justice thing for a few years now. I've read a lot. I've discussed a lot. I've actively attempted to work things out. It's a thing. And my involvement in these issues is twofold. For one, I consider it part of my fandom involvement to be aware of how different social characteristics affect participation and/or reception. For another, I am a sociology major, and so *isms are a significant part of my education.
Our Illogival Fandom So Doctor Who is not a complete loss. But then there are some shows that go completely beyond the pale of enjoyability, until they become nothing more than overwritten collections of tropes impossible to watch without groaning. I think the worst offender here is the History Channel and all their programs on the so-called "World War II".
Handy Map Demonstrates Where You Can Marry Your Cat But Not Your Girlfriend Now that the so-called "Defense of Marriage" act has been declared unconstitutional, I've made some maps to show everyone where we stand right now in terms of marriage equality rights — and, of course, our right to marry guinea pigs.
Why women can’t vote with their dollars in film and TV It’s not hard to read between the lines: if we don’t watch male programming, our tastes won’t be allowed to influence those shows. But if we do watch male programming, our tastes still won’t be allowed to influence those shows.
Bisexuals: putting the B back in LGBT Why don't we come out? A lot of the people using the LGBT scene are bisexuals in the closet – they came out as gay or lesbian because they knew that would get a good reception. But for a bi on the gay scene, the closet has two doors, a bit like an airlock – behind one of them is a cosy atmosphere with no pressure, and behind the other is what appears to be a vacuum.
